Two Major Issues to Face in Middle Adulthood

What are the two main problems people face in adulthood? How are they different from the problems faced by young people? There are two main definitions in the middle of adulthood. One is called peak period and new target setting (Freund & Ritter, 2011, p. 583). According to Freund and Ritter (2011), 92% of middle-aged people think that there is a middle-aged crisis and 71% middle-aged people know the middle-aged crisis (p. 583). Middle-aged crisis is defined as a personality change in which an individual loses association with identity, value, role and group (Freund & Ritter, 2011, p. 584). One of the main criticisms of the middle-aged crisis is that profits and losses are considered normal throughout the lifecycle. Furthermore, changes that can not be adapted to experience are defined as possible crises at any age (Freund & Ritter, 2011, p. 586).

It occurs around 40 to 45 years old, and therefore includes part of the early adulthood and mid adult, which is important for growth and highly controversial. Levinson considers the characteristics of life to be quite different between the two stages; from the beginning of adults, it progresses to varying degrees throughout the transition period and the middle term. People often face dangerous times because they experience dramatic life changes during the interim transition. Levinson uses the term "middle-aged crisis" to describe the crisis people have experienced during middle-aged transition, not other developmental crises. Middle-aged crisis is the time of development that is said to occur in the Middle Ages, characterized by sudden big changes, experience of anxiety, reevaluation of yourself and your choice.
