The series premiered on April 26, 2017. On 3 May 2017, "The Story of the Maid" renewed the premiere of the second season in 2018. Maid stories are well received by television reviewers. At Metacritic, according to 39 comments, it showed "general praise" and won 92 points (out of 100 points). Evaluation of rotten tomatoes in this season is 100%, the average score is 9.1 points (out of 10 points), based on 67 comments. An important consensus of this site is "Maid's story, maid is an endless adaptation of Margaret Atwood's dystopian novel based on Elizabeth Moss's excellent central performance." Daniel Fernberg of Halloween Mr. said, "It may be the best newcomer in the spring, and of course it may be the most important."
