Today's blog is from Arica J, Senior Communication and Sociology major in St. Louis, Missouri.
I was shocked when I first entered the University of Tulsa campus. Architecture, charm of the south, kindly kind feelings - it exceeded my expectations. However, TU was the right choice for me only when I walked the gate of the Catholic Newman Center in St. Philip's Neri.
Many New York campuses have a Catholic Newman Center. Some people dominate the campus ministry rather than others. TU is a small private university so I do not know what will happen if I enter the Newman Center. I certainly do not expect many students or high participation. But my expectations are very high, especially after the school and campus itself has become impressive. My expectation has been met!
Since then, the TU Catholic Newman Center has become my second hometown. Newman is an ideal place if you need a place to study, a place to hang out, or a place to have fun. As a typical busy college student, I can positively send my life of faith. Newman always smiles. Mass is provided everyday, but on Saturday about 200 students participate in the mass every weekend.
In addition to the Mass, Newman has many other things to happen. Catechisis course is basically "4-1-1" of Catholic that provides various themes. Worship, and worship and worship meetings are very popular. We are also fortunate to have a FOCUS (Catholic University fellowship) missionary on our campus, providing Biblical research and providing one-on-one opportunities to grow into our faith in college days is. Every year, we bring several Faith & Food events to local and national speakers. Students will join the on-campus team and participate in Thursday's entertainment day sponsored by our colleagues. There are always various activities to encourage friendship, pleasure and fellowship, from valentine day dinner to white elephant Christmas gift exchange.
One of the greatest blessings of Catholic students on campus is a priest. Kelly He is very suitable for college campus. Dad Kelly knows exactly how to connect with students and welcomes everyone. Since I am a transfer student, it was hard at first to adapt. I do not have a welcome group like most freshmen. Other students around my father Kelly and Newman make me feel very comfortable
Currently I am a colleague minister, this is the Newman Center's student leadership team. Eight student leaders plan activities and activities for the Newman community, but also provide resources for students. Those who need to talk with them, those who have questions about Catholics, or those who are interested in playing a bigger role, I encourage you to talk with one of us.
If you are looking for a place to pursue your faith and build a true friendship while receiving excellent education, TU is the right place for you. The TU Catholic Newman Center makes my college experience even better, I am very grateful for this.
Founded in 1893, the Newman Catholic Center in New Pennsylvania State (Newman Center) is focused on supporting religious activities of students, faculty and staff, and staff. The organization brings superior Christian characters to the campus including James Martin in September 2015. At the World Family Conference in 2015, including the visit of Pope of Francisco to Philadelphia, the Newman Center greeted over 900 students and graduates from the University of Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Everyday is an independent student newspaper published daily since its inception in 1885. Because of the Second World War, newspapers were not issued from May 1943 until November 1945. In 1984, when the newspaper became a company, the university lost all editorials and financial control of "Daily Pennsylvania". In 2007, The Daily Pennsylvanian received the pacemaker award managed by Associated Collegiate Press.
