X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements were performed to determine the exact phase of the quasi 2D perovskite film we obtained. As shown in FIG. 1 b, all the perovskite films having the composition of n ≧ 2 show diffraction peaks at 14.8, which is the same as the (100) diffraction pattern of the 3D perovskite FAPbBr 3 (ref. 7, 35 ). However, the peak becomes wider and the diffraction peak is likely to result from a series of PEA 2 (FAPbBr 3) n - 1 PbBr 4 phases with large n (n → ∞) or 3D FAPbBr 3 with nano-sized particles (Supplementary Figure 3). This result shows that all quasi 2D perovskite membranes always contain large n phases (n → ∞) or 3D perovskites regardless of precursor composition. From the Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) image, it is confirmed that the crystal size is reduced when converting 3-D perovskite to quasi 2-D perovskite (Supplementary Figure 3).
