Treating Diseases with Drugs: My Career as a Pharmacist

My strong desire to pursue a career as a pharmacist arises from my interest in how medicine is involved in the treatment of diseases. My interest in medicine encouraged me to further enhance my knowledge and understanding of how to safely deliver drugs to the human body in various ways. In particular, I am interested in the application of nanotechnology in the healthcare industry, the use of nanotechnology in the medical industry for prevention, treatment, diagnosis, and pursue a career in the pharmaceutical field.

Pharmacists are specialists in the development of medicines for the treatment and prevention of human diseases. They encourage physicians and patients to treat certain health problems with prescription, marketing medicines, drugs and therapies. They also prepare the medicine, fill in the prescription, and teach the patient how to take the medicine. Therefore, they must have good communication skills so that they can hear, understand and ask questions. In addition, they must be able to clearly clarify their ideas in talking and writing so that patients can understand them correctly. Pharmacists need to explain the ingredients, side effects, dosages, and complications of other drugs that patients may use. People involved in this occupation must always be carefully organized and focused so as not to give the wrong person the wrong medicine.

Increase the number of drugs available on the market. The choice of prescription drugs and marketing drugs being done today is more than in the past. Different drugs are often used to treat a single disease. Pharmacists help prescribers and patients determine which drug therapy will produce the most beneficial results. If the pharmacist is involved in patient care, the outcome will be improved and the cost will be reduced. The population of the elderly is increasing. According to the US Census Bureau, by 2050, one in five Americans will be classified as an elderly. Elderly patients are usually more chronic diseases and more complicated medication than younger people. Pharmacists play an important role in helping elderly patients deal with complex drug needs and seek ways to reduce the economic burden.
