The PC industry is intensely competitive and is constantly changing as technology evolves and customers' needs change. The major competitors in the PC industry are IBM, HP, Dell, and Apple. These competitors will continue to compete for the position of the best competitor. They are competing in terms of price, product innovation, advertisement and so on. In the early 1980s, the biggest competitor in the industry was IBM. It's because of its open system and ease of cloning. In the meantime, Apple is trying to maintain and change the pace of its competition strategy many times.
Another major competitor from Apple is Sony Corporation (SNE). Sony's PC is very popular in many markets all over the world. The sale of that computer product helped to push Sony to the top ranks of electronics companies, which now offers a variety of electronic products ranging from personal consumer products to video game consoles. ASUSTeK Computer Inc., a Taiwanese company known for its ASUS brand, has a long history of producing affordable PC components, peripherals, and more recently tablets and smartphones. Asus was originally the motherboard manufacturer, has grown to the world IT market leader for almost 30 years.
This article focuses on the home consumer / small business market, but the comparison of competitors is summarized in the company's financial plan. Each of the top five companies in the PC market announced double-digit growth in 2003, but Dell is still the industry leader with the highest growth rate and market share.
