Mickie James will return to the WWE at the SmackDown Live show on January 17, 2017 and will help Alexa Bliss maintain the SmackDown Women's Championship against Becky Lynch in the main steel cage game. WWE announced on January 28, 2017 that Nikki Bella will be the executive producer of Total Divas in the second half of April. Nikki will become the first women's talent in the company to be a producer related to the company. At the SmackDown Live main event on April 25, Naomi and Charlotte Flair participated in the SmackDown Women's Championship. For the second time, women can participate in the main event. With Payback, Alexa Bliss is the first female genius who won the women's brand in the company since restarting the championship and brand expansion. On April 27, 2017, WWE and TV 5 announced a new contract to play the 1 hour of the SmackDown version. On May 12, 2017, WWE and Saran Media announced a multi-year contract between TV Raw and SmackDown. On July 10, 2017, WWE and AB 1 extended the partnership to 18 years and signed a new multi-year broadcasting WWE program contract.
