Title IX : The Landmark Law That Bans Sex Discrimination

Prior to 1973, no one believed that there was a law permitting women to participate in areas that were exclusively for men. But somehow, everything changed. The law was established in 1973, more specifically the law amendment called Article 9 was established and became one of the most important milestones in the rights of women. However, despite what has been done so far, the law is not perfect, there is a possibility of improving its execution. Article 9 itself is a groundbreaking law prohibiting gender discrimination in federal funded educational programs and activities "(" School pregnancy test "1).

Federal law called Title IX prohibits sexual discrimination and protects school students who receive federal funds. The court agreed that gender discrimination prohibited by Article 9 includes not only discrimination against girls and boys but also violations of sexual harassment and stereotyping of gender. LGBTQ's goal of discrimination and harassment by gender has successfully depended on the protection of title IX in several lawsuits including schools.

Article 9 is a federal law prohibiting gender discrimination at school. The court revealed that this includes discrimination because someone is a transgender or does not meet the stereotypes or expectations of gender. Article 9 applies to all schools (including K - 12 schools and universities) funded by the Federation, including almost all public schools. Even in hundreds of school districts nationwide, policies that prohibit discrimination based on gender identity, facial expression, and sexual orientation are enacted.

Chapter 9 basically prohibits sexual discrimination in federal funded schools, including universities. According to the law, "Under the sex, no one in the United States will be excluded from educational programs and activities that receive federal financial support, deprived of their own interests, or discrimination." The most common example of chapter 9 is female education. The number of people involved in sports has increased during the career. We should not underestimate the impact of Part 9 on girls' sports. NCAA said that the number of female college students reached a record high, and the number of girls participating in girls' high school sports increased from 300,000 in 1974 to 3.1 in 2012.
