Title: Culture Compare and Contrast

Course overview: Students learn comparative writing skills by choosing American cultural elements (fashion, food, religion etc) and comparing them with the same elements of other cultures.

• This course can be taught in combination with social studies courses of any culture. You can also study independently, compare and write in English courses.

• Instructor's progress / activity: Before starting this course, students need to practice familiarizing themselves with writing basic comparisons and comparative articles.

• Guide discussions on cultural elements such as food, fashion, religion, language, and social customs.

• Make students think about the different cultures they encounter. Please refer to the following tips.

• Show students images and tell them to comment on each item. Let's focus on the same points and differences for everyone

• Many cultures have similar rituals (birth, adults, weddings, funerals) but explain to students that the details of these rituals are different

• Read and edit information from the database so you can create comparisons that compare the elements of American culture and the same elements of the selected culture.

RESULT: Students will write articles comparing elements of American culture with elements of other cultures.

• Look for short stories written by Latha Viswanathan through school libraries or LitFinder (if any).

• In the class, I will explain the differences in the story and whether any of them are related to my personal thesis.
