When Spain conquered in 1521, Tenoktitong, the capital of Azteca, was one of the largest cities in the world, with over 200,000 inhabitants living there. In less than 200 years, it grew from a small residential area in a small island in the western wetland of Lake Tesco to a strong political, economic and religious center in Mexico 's largest pre - Colombian empire. Tenochtitlan is a city rich in wealth, obtained through compliments from conquered areas. With an amazingly beautiful and impressive size, the towering pyramid is painted with vivid red and blue, and its palace is dazzling white. A colorful and busy market, stunning food, luxuries impressed the local tourists and conquered the Spaniards
The majority of Tenochtitlan's buildings occurred during the reign of the four Aztecs that started in the 1740s. This city was built on the land from Lake Tekoco and was built on a grid inspired by the ruins still remaining in the ancient city Teotihuacan 1000 years ago. The network of streets and canals is full of canoes carrying people and goods to the city, and through the lake to the coastal town. Two waterways supply fresh water. In the center of Tenoktitong is not only the center of religion and rituals of the city, but also the sacred ground which is also the center of the empire. This enclave of about 380 x 330 yards surrounds a masonry wall that can hold more than 8,000 people. Here is the most important temple of Aztec God. There are schools that train stadiums, pastoral residences, and holy aristocrats to become priests. Adjacent to the sacred area, the luxurious palaces of the kings and aristocrats include beautiful gardens, bird gardens and zoos. There is a management building. General people live far away, and with their own local temples and markets, they are organized in a community called calpulli. These groups include workers and farmers, as well as handicraft experts such as pottery, textiles, sculptors, jewels, feather workers and soldiers.
On the important day of August 1521, the life in this magnificent city center has changed forever. Immediately after the collapse of Tenoktitran, the Spaniards destroyed the destroyed cities and built the new Spanish governor's capital on the ruins. They named the new big city Mexico City and today it has become one of the most populous cities in the world.
