Ethan Frome - Responsibility Ethan Frome is the protagonist of Edith Wharton's tragic novel. Ethan suffers from the opportunity I lost when I was young, and frustrated with boring life and the marriage of the sky. Throughout the story, Ethan was confined by social restrictions and obligations to his wife. He led an unfortunate life with much responsibility and freedom. Ethan Flume studied science at university for a year and if he was not called to go home to run family farms and factories he might become an engineer or a physicist Hmm.
