Thomas Jefferson Thomas Jefferson was born in Shadwell Virginia on April 13, 1743. He is the third brother of six sisters. He has two other brothers, but they all died in early childhood. His father was Peter Jefferson and died when he was 14 years old. His mother is Jane Randolph Jefferson. After his father died, he inherited 2,500 acres of land and at least 20 slave African Americans and became a head of household.
