Thomas Jefferson is a person who really does not need to introduce. He was regarded as a bright writer and appointed to draft the Declaration of Independence. The National Assembly officially approved the "Declaration of Independence" on July 4, 1776. Jefferson has many slaves to work for him. He even even sells his slave to buy another person. Then, why should he write "independence declaration" and "everyone was born equally". Thomas Jefferson may be a hypocrite, only people write what they want to see.
In American history, Jefferson himself had hundreds of African-American slaves in adulthood, so the relationship between Thomas Jefferson and slavery became a complicated relationship. Jefferson's position on slavery has been widely studied and discussed by his biographers and slavers. From the age of 24 in 1767, Jefferson inherited 5,000 acres of land and 52 slaves according to his father's will. In 1768, Jefferson started construction of the Monticello plantation. In 1772, Jefferson inherited two farms and 135 slaves through marriage with Martha Wells and the inheritance of his father-in-law, John Wells. By 1776, Jefferson was one of the largest farms in Virginia. But it is difficult for him to liberate his slaves and lose them as assets, as the value of his property (land and slave) is increasingly offset by the increase in his debt.
When Thomas Jefferson was born in 1743, slavery was in Virginia for nearly 75 years. He grew up with farmers with slave laborers and had about 200 slaves in his adult life. Jefferson's lifetime and writing reflects the moral contradictions and practical problems confronted by the new Democrats who admire freedom and equality. Jefferson's slavery and his view on blacks are complex. He thought that blacks were obviously inferior to other races, but later acknowledged that slavery might affect their abilities. As a young Virginia legislator, he failed to successfully permit civilians to release their slaves. Later on he proposed a bill prohibiting free blacks from staying in the state. The draft of his Declaration of Independence included stern words against slave trade across the Atlantic Ocean. As a president, he signed a bill to ban the deal.
