In Daniel Kahneman's book "Thinking Slowly" he describes two ways we deal with information. It has high-speed mode and low-speed mode, or labels for system 1 and system 2 respectively. While thinking slowly, you carefully consider all the pros and cons of doing decisions, taking the time to make a decision. But, briefly, you will automatically make a decision based on your beliefs, experience, heuristics, etc. I do not even know when to use the system to make decisions.
