Theodore Huebner Roethke, born in Saginaw, Michigan, is the son of Otto Roethke and Helen Huebner, who owns a local greenhouse with his uncle. When I was a child, he spent a lot of time looking at nature in the greenhouse. Roethke grew up at Saginaw and went to Aurthur Hill High School. So he made a speech on the Juvenile Red Cross in 26 different languages. In 1923, his father died of cancer and this event would shape his art and artistic views forever. From 1925 to 1929, Rotke graduated with honor at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor). His family wanted him to pursue a legal career, but he resigned from law school after the semester.
