The Woman Behind The Wallpaper

Charlotte Perkins '"Yellow Wallpaper" depicts a woman of the 19th century being pressured by the men' s dominated society. This short story is very close to me, as Perkins is inspired by her own experience. The purpose of writing her "Yellow Wallpapers" is to hope that doctors, especially Dr. Vermitchell, can read short stories and change their treatment.

The women behind the wallpaper became attractive. The narrator starts to rise to the edge of the room like a lady behind the paper, making a groove or "stain" on the wall. Narrator got a glimpse of a woman outside the window. And rubbed his hands and knees in the garden. She also started peeling the wallpaper in an effort to completely release a woman (or a woman, she immediately believes) trapped in the second floor. John and his sister Jenny began to doubt that something was very wrong, but they were satisfied with her obvious progress. Sandra Gilbert and Susan Cuba insist that women behind wallpaper are multi-purpose narrators (10). This woman symbolizes the speaker's own limitation on the patriarchal community in which she lives. Also, you can see that wallpaper is a metaphor of her psychological collapse. She said that the pattern of confusion, "... long distance curve of the distance ... sudden suicide - committing suicide in the face of contradiction, creeping at an amazing angle". She and society eventually destroyed without changing enlightenment. In addition, the narrator admitted that she represents the majority of her women at the time and claimed that "I think there are many women."
