Self-censorship is a well-known concept in the global business, especially Washington's political circle. But as far as China is concerned, academic self-censorship is particularly troubling. This country is a true competitor of America's most important diplomatic relations, major geopolitical concerns, largest single trading partner, and global political power. Especially American colleges and think tanks are one of the best sources of information on China as journalists and academics about China are less effective in China.
