Founded in 1902, the Student Council (SG) is an official spokesman for student organizations at the University of Texas at Austin. All students including undergraduates and graduate students are members of the Student Union government. SG represents the administrative department of the University, the Texas University System Board, the Austin City, the Texas State Assembly, and the US Congress' student body.

Our mission is to represent the interests of our students, to protect and protect the traditions and legends of the university, and to support student and student academic and community activities.

Earlier this year, before the murder in South Carolina, the student government at the University of Texas passed a resolution seeking cancellation of the statue of the US Federal President Jefferson Davis. Texas is one of just eight provinces that allows students to bring guns into college buildings, including the vast University of Texas System. The early Texas State Law signed in 1995 permits students with hidden carry-on permits to carry weapons to campus sidewalks, streets and parking lots. The University of Texas urged the Republican governor Governor Greg Abbott and Republican led Legislature, but it did not support it. The law provides the president of the university with the ability to regulate hidden crowds on campus, but this power is limited. According to the law, any rules or regulations enacted by a university can not "generally prohibit" a license holder carrying a hidden gun to the campus.

A 23 - year - old student at the University of Texas (Austin), Elyse Aviña, moved to this country after passing the "Campus Transportation" Law permitting the possession of a pistol at a public university. She co-founded a group for campus carry, a group devoted to improving gun control within the province.
