Alabama University (Alabama or the United Arab Emirates) is a public research university located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA and is a flagship system of the University of Alabama system. Founded in 1820, the University of Alabama is the oldest and largest public university in Alabama. The university offers 13 departments, units, master's degree, educational specialists and doctorate courses. The only law school that is publicly supported within the state is in the UA. Other academic programs not available elsewhere in Alabama include doctoral programs of anthropology, communication and information science, metallurgical engineering, music, romantic languages and social work.
Alabama's higher education program has 14 four-year public universities, two-year community colleges, 17 private universities, graduate schools and graduate schools. Alabama's public higher education is supervised by the Alabama Higher Education Committee and the Alabama Higher Education Bureau.
