A year after the start of the Bosnian war, MSF began activities in Srebrenica (Bosnia and Herzegovina) in 1993 as part of the United Nations Convoy. This city is surrounded by the Bosnian Serbian army, has about 60,000 Bosnian people, it is a protected area of the UN protection army. Since MSF is the only organization providing medical services to surrounding civilians, it does not condemn the genocide for fear of being expelled from the country (but accuses other organizations of inaccessibility) . In 1995, when the Bosnian Serbian army occupied the town, MSF was forced to leave the area. 40,000 Bosnian citizens were expelled from the country and about 7,000 were murdered with mass execution

Since the summer of 1992, the military situation is quite stable. Despite the gradual erosion of the forces in parts of eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina, the radical formation of the Bosnian government forces and some well-prepared Bosnian Croatian troops is the forefront for the rest of the year Occupied. The conflict between the international arms embargo in 1993 and 1994 and the Croatian army weakened the Bosnian government. But in late 1994, Bosnia Croatia and Bosnian Knox agreed to join a union. The United Nations (UN) refused to intervene in the conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but the UN Protection Force (UNPROFOR) promoted the provision of humanitarian assistance. The organization has expanded its role to protect some of the "safe areas" later declared by the United Nations. However, in July 1995 when the Serbian army of Bosnia slaughtered more than 7,000 Bosnians, the United Nations was unable to protect the safe area of Srebrenica. (See the massacre of Srebrenica)
