The Treaty of Paris

The treaty was negotiated in Paris, France. This is the origin of the name. In France there are three important Americans who are negotiating a treaty for the United States: John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and John Jay. It took a long time to sign the agreement between the United Kingdom and the United States even after the British army surrendered at the battle of Yorktown. King George finally approved the treaty after about a year and a half!

Three Americans did a good job in negotiating a treaty. They agreed and signed two very important points:

The first and most important thing for Americans is that Britain recognizes that 13 colonies are free and independent. The UK no longer requires land or government

Second, expansion on the west side is permitted at the border with the United States. This will prove to be important as America will continue to extend west towards the Pacific Ocean.

Other points of this treaty relate to fishery rights, debt, prisoners of war, access to the Mississippi River, property of the royal family. The parties want to protect the rights and property of their citizens

Each point is called an article. The only effective provision today is Article 1 which the United States regards as an independent state.

There are other treaties concerning other countries involved in the war, such as France, the Netherlands and Spain. Spain has Florida as part of the treaty

The "Paris Convention" is an agreement concluded at the end of the Spanish-American War of 1898. The "Paris Convention" also showed the end of the Spanish Empire and the Pacific Ocean. The "Paris Convention" gives ownership to Guam and Puerto Rico. In the case of the Paris Convention of 1989 considered to be a huge debt owed by Cuba to the United States after the conclusion of the contract, the Cuba region was awarded to Cuba. According to their agreement, the United States has agreed to pay 20 million dollars to the Philippines.

Ten years after the "Paris Convention" was concluded, John Jay, then Judge of the Supreme Court, was sent to London and signed a new treaty. Part of it is to solve the problem of the "Paris Convention". For example, under the pressure of the Canadian fur industry, the UK did not evacuate from the seven fortress along the border. Jay as a negotiator, as a negotiator in Paris and a federal diplomat, is a logical choice because he is familiar with these issues. By that time, Jay knew that negotiators of the treaty often do not have honors, as predicted by Franklin.

Tension lasted less than 30 years, as the UK ignored the specific provisions of the Jay Treaty and the Paris Convention. This ignorance led to the failure of these treaties. The issue of the "Paris Convention" includes border disputes and ambiguities. There has never been a clear statement that the boundary will lead to future confusion. I have never been to England who was ordered to evacuate from the Northwest Frontier Post. Due to the problem of the Paris Convention, John Jay was sent to Europe in 1794 and formed a new treaty. This treaty was later called Jay Treaty. This treaty requires the withdrawal of British posts at the northwest border of the United States of America and defines the boundary between the United States of America and Canada. In addition, we need to decide American compensation for vessels illegally arrested in the UK and the compensation that Americans paid to UK businessmen for debt before the war.
