Jefferson Davis was born June 3, 1808 in Todd County, Kentucky. His father Sam Davis was a veteran of the revolutionary war. His brother, Joseph Davis, moved to Mississippi, becoming a wealthy and successful grower. When he was a baby Jefferson 's family moved to Mississippi. At the age of 16 he entered the US military academy. He finally graduated in lower grades in 1828. In 1835 Davis resigned from the army and got married. After he got married, he got a place in the House of Representatives in 1845. During his lifetime, he was appointed Minister by President Franklin Pierce in 1853. Davis made many improvements to the US military in the office. He expanded the army. He brought new and better weapons and improved infantry tactics systems.
