Before you start reading, discuss the details of each image in the handout. There are 8.5 x 11 inch images to share with the course. Look at the United States and the world map to help students better understand the situation. Visually summarize the war of the 19th century and draw a century timeline in the mark on the left of 1800 and the mark on the right of 1900. Ask students: 1) When does the United States buy land from France? 2) What is the name of the land? Have the students come to the board to have the date and name of the territory of Louisiana written in the timetable. Instruct students to ask another classmate. When (to enter war name)?
From 1800 to 1850, the United States collapsed due to expansion of the territory. Expansion of the territory itself is not a controversial matter. Movement by the concept of Manifesto Destiny, most people believe that America should range from the sea to the shining ocean, and perhaps even more. But this is a matter of expanding slavery to new territory, breaking north south, and dividing our country. The invasion of Missouri caused a crisis of the first territory expansion from 1819 to 1821. The proposed state of Missouri province was the first one (Louisiana state itself) cut from the purchase of Louisiana. It bans the slavery of the Northwest Territory and is under the jurisdiction of Northwest regulation which has a long tradition of slavery. Therefore, Missouri applied for slavery in the alliance in 1817.
