Epic is usually black and white; superman's good guy and strong but destined villain there, he will fail. As a reader, we have always believed that heroes are people with good value and solid morality, but the enemies are considered to be purely powerful and invincible egg laying. When he wrote Glendell based on his classical epic "Beowulf" opponent, John Gardner had other ideas. Immediately, the reader was absorbed in the idea of Glendell and saw that he was also fighting the inner devil.
The narrator told him that God banished him when Cain killed his brother Abel. Glendell is descendants of Cain. When Cain was in front of him, Grendel separated the friendship of others from God. Therefore, this creature found Heorot 's bad joy and friendship sound, which made him start attacking. Both Beowulf and Grendel illustrate the features of their prototypes (prototypes are literary elements modeled in many years of history). Beowulf is a magnificent hero and therefore has the characteristics of courage and extraordinary strength. As an impressive warrior, he stands out among men. He is also devoted to his prototype ideals. Glendell also fully reflects the characteristics of his prototype - we call it "reverse" because there is no better term. Like Beowulf, he was fearless at least in the early stages.
In the story of Beowulf you can see Christian and heathen elements. Grendel and his mother were explained as descendants of Cain. The image of Cain was used as a metaphor for expressing the existence of chaos and evil during this period. In the Bible, Cain killed his brother Abel, because he was punished by God and was expelled from the Garden of Eden. For Anglo-Saxon people, the most serious crime a person can commit is slaveryism, the killing of his brothers. Their society and culture are rotating deeply on the theme of brotherhood love and blood relations.
