The Secondhand Legacy of Socrates

Socrates was born around 469 BC and became one of the world's most famous philosophers during his lifetime. According to Stanford University Philosophy Encyclopedia, most of the information on Socrates is second hand and unlike many other philosophers, he has never written anything. Known information seems to come from his most famous student Plato's work. The teacher of Socrates is not known, but I believe that many people got his idea from Anaxagoras and even from Heracritus teachings.

What is Socrates, Plato, Aristotle's contribution to the Western philosophy? Also, how are their legacy reflected in today's education? Socrates, Plato and Aristotle are the three most legendary ancient Greek philosophers. Socrates is today admired as an instant of wisdom and philosophical life. He stimulated the so-called Socratic method. And it repeatedly asked the students to help the teacher clarify their deepest ideas. Plato's student Aristotle is known for his breadth and depth of knowledge. He provided a universal, spiritual form in our material world through sensory observation and Plato's integration of scientist beliefs. He teaches that a benign life includes a gentle path between rational control of desire and choice of extreme value.

Socrates was one of the most prominent Greek philosophers of the Hellenistic era. His logical reasoning ability and invention of Socratic method left a permanent legacy in Western philosophy. Plato, together with his excellent students, gave him more life and images of his idea, Plato also recorded the passion of Socrates against the audience. He is an important member of the aristocracy, but his disdain for authority will eventually lead to his tragic result. In this tragedy, heroism and morality are tenacious. The then universal law of Athens decided that he was guilty, but he was spiritually honest. Whichever he chooses asylum or immediate enforcement, he chooses the latter as a matter of keeping the principle. We will discuss this evaluation in detail in the next paragraph
