Leukemia is blood cancer or bone marrow cancer (News, M.). This is where our blood forms an organization. White blood cells are fighting for infections in our bodies that protect us from any bacteria entering our bodies. Patients with leukemia have white blood cell abnormalities or are called white blood cells (News, M.).
Leukemia: There are basically four main types of leukemia. These are acute myeloid leukemia, acute lymphocytic leukemia, chronic myeloid leukemia and chronic lymphocytic leukemia. This type is usually formed in the bone marrow or tissue that is part of blood cells and is called blood cancer.
Leukemia begins with bone marrow cells. Cells change and become leukemia cells. When bone marrow cells experience leukemia changes, leukemia cells can grow and survive more than normal cells. Over time, leukemic cells extrude or inhibit the development of normal cells. The rate of progression of leukemia and how cells replace normal blood and bone marrow cells is different from each type of leukemia
Leukemia is a malignant tumor of blood cells (cancer). In leukemia, abnormal blood cells are produced in bone marrow. Usually, leukemia involves the production of abnormal white blood cells - this is the cell that is responsible for fighting the infection. However, abnormal cells in leukemia can not function in the same way as normal white blood cells. Leukemia cells continue to grow and divide, eventually pushing out normal blood cells. As a result, the body fights infection, suppresses bleeding and makes it difficult to deliver oxygen.
Leukemia is also classified by cell type. Leukemia involving bone marrow cells is called myeloid leukemia. Bone marrow cells are immature blood cells, usually granulocytes or monocytes. Leukemia involving lymphocytes is called lymphocytic leukemia. There are four main types of leukemia: acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) may occur in children and adults. According to the National Cancer Institute's (NCI) Monitoring, Epidemiology and Final Results Program, approximately 21,000 new AML cases are diagnosed each year in the United States. This is the most common form of leukemia. The 5-year survival rate of AML is 26.9%
About one-third of children with certain types of cancer are leukemia. The most common is acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Leukemia is the second most common form of cancer in infants (less than 12 months), the most common form of cancer in older children. Boys are more likely to develop leukemia than girls and white Americans have the potential to develop leukemia as much as twice as many as those of African American children. About 3% of adults' cancer is diagnosed as leukemia, but cancer is common in adults, so more than 90% of leukemia is diagnosed in adults.
