Dr. Jonas Salk of the Salk Institute asked Louis Kahn to design the Salk Institute of Biology near La Jolla, California. Salk thinks medical research should not be limited to science. In response to Salk's view, Kahn saw the possibility of combining art and architecture with design functions. He agrees with Salk that art - oriented people like art can contribute to the psychological environment in which scientific research is created. In his design process, the pursuit of Khan in this vision is obvious.

Standing alone in the infinite blue ocean, Louis Kahne's Soak Institute is unique. "The soak biology laboratory on the Pacific coast near La Joya in Lloyd Kaan adheres to clarity, clarity and application consistency under its own spirit" (Heyer 195).
