The Salem Witch trial in 1692 was held when a group of girls caught a stroke. Because they think that it is the work of the devil, they are scared of everyone. Soon these girls were forced to condemn some of their friends as witches. Defendants are often punished or killed. This is very similar to the red panic of the 1950s. The red panic is the era in American history, and many Americans are concerned about Soviet communism. As with the Witch trial it is imperative that people tell the government if someone knows who might become a communist. If people do not say that, then they will be suspected of hiding information. When someone is condemned to be a communist, they are forced to appoint three other communists or spend time in prison.
