Due to long-term inefficacy, potential negative side effects and lack of long-term research low carbohydrate diet such as Atkins diet may not be the best choice for weight loss. Since the recent popularity of Atkins diet, researchers have proved the claim of Dr. Atkins and tried to judge whether the diet is safe or not. Currently available research for diet supports low fat and high complex carbohydrate diet, focusing on reducing calories.

Most people can lose weight at least in a short time with almost all calorie restricted diet plans. However, in the long term, low carbohydrate diet such as Atkins diet has no effect on weight loss than standard weight loss diet, most people show that we can lose weight regardless of diet plan. As carbohydrates usually provide more than half of caloric expenditure, the main reason for the reduction of Atkins diet is a decrease in total calorie intake due to a decrease in carbohydrate intake. Several studies have shown that Atkins diet has other reasons to lose weight. As your food choices are limited you may lose weight and extra protein and fat eat less, as you can make you feel more fulfilled. These two effects also help to reduce total calorie intake
