California and other states have enacted this law to continue the safety and protection of babies. But desperate mothers may leave these babies in unsafe or dangerous places if you do not understand or consider other options. Since the enactment of the law, as of January 2007, 182 babies have surrendered safely. In 2006, 60 babies surrendered. This is the largest number since the project began. The number of illegally left babies has also decreased from 33 in 2002 to 16 in 2006.
