The Rose Garden

Prior to 1902, there were a lot of stables including horses and coaches in the oval shaped office, cabinet room, rose garden today. When Roosevelt was renovated in 1902, First Lady Edith Roosevelt insisted on a suitable colonial garden to help replace the house of the greenhouse rose that once existed here.

Rose garden is based on the traditional 18th century American garden. The current garden design dates back to the Kennedy administration. President Kennedy and his wife are interested in having the characteristics of gardening according to the traditions of President Washington and President Jefferson. Since 1913, the West Garden was known as Rose Garden. At that time, Mrs. Allen Wilson replaced the existing colonial garden with an official rose garden.

In the rose garden, there is a rectangular lawn surrounded by flowerbeds and groves of crabs. The garden is just a short walk from the elliptical office, and many receptions, signs and media events are held every year.

The rose garden at the Montreal Botanic Gardens exhibits 10,000 roses in a modern rose garden with lap bed.
