The role people play in most women Esmeralda Santiago The role of people in society is very important. Roles are often as important as society recognizes. Many of my roles in society have not gained enough recognition. For example, being a housewife may be regarded as a person who does not like actual work, idleness or welfare.
Esmeralda Santiago's autobiography "Almost A Woman" has many cultural differences. In this respect, I feel that she is alienated from New York or other parts of the United States. When Esmeralda was 13 years old, she and her family moved from Puerto Rico to New York. She does not know English and I do not know what American culture is like. To make up for her ignorance of American culture, when she grew up in the United States, most people linked to the only Latin word they have ever met. "Rita Moreno" She dislikes those assumptions, they are inaccurate. Some of them are correct, but she does not like those who think she is stupid just because American culture is new to her.
Esmeralda Santiago I am an American from Puerto Rico and wrote a novel called "Almost a Woman". Her book outlines the history of her lady and details the growth of Puerto Rico in America in the 1960s. Esmeralda Santiago wrote as "almost women" at the age of 58. At this age, she knows how to speak and write English clearly. By writing a book to be published as an American citizen and to the American people, Esmeralda decided to write her novel in English. Her novel was written in English, but Esmeralda Santiago chose to insert a small piece written in Spanish. This chapter is only concerned with her Spanish readers. This is one of the ways writers relate to her roots and "people".
