The role of East Timor International Power (UNTAET) in the effort to achieve East Timor's independence East Portugal (also known as East Timor in Portuguese) is a country in Southeast Asia. This is a Portuguese colony from the 16th century until the colonial era of Portugal was established in 1975. In 1976, East Timor invaded Indonesia and tried to expand its territory. This led to the development of long-term guerrilla warfare between the East Timorese who want independence and the Indonesian troops who suppressed the independent efforts of East Timor.
Independent East Timor (known for its Portuguese acronym FRETILIN) is a threat of communism against this region. Indonesian intelligence agencies have used the domestic division of East Timor to promote the civil war between various parties in East Timor. The leaders of the East Timor Democratic Union and the Democratic and Democratic Alliance Democratic Union almost had no citizen support and agreed to include Indonesian government and East Timor in Indonesia. The Suharto regime blocked the Baltic Declaration and legalized the invasion and consolidation, resulting in about one third of the deaths of indigenous peoples of Timor.
The opposition to the opposition campaign of the administration led to pressure from the international community towards mass mobilization, loyalty to civilians and security forces, and recognition of failures
In anticipation of the liberation from Portugal, East Timor citizens formed two major parties, the East Timor Democratic Union (UDT) and the East Timor of East Timor. Indonesia persuaded the UDT to withdraw from the alliance, hoping to hurt the step of independent peace. UDT had control of power, but FRETILIN counterattacked, many members of UDT crossed the border with Indonesia and went to West Timor. In 1975, Indonesian troops invaded East Timor and claimed that intervention is necessary to maintain peace. Many East Timorese were forced to settle in the Indonesian towns and camps under the control of Indonesia, and more than 100,000 deaths came out in the first year of occupation. Citizen's torture and murder cases have been on for many years, and eventually 200,000 deaths have appeared. It is over one-third of East Timor's total population
