The Relationship Between Television and Presidential Elections

The purpose of this paper is to study the relationship between the media, especially television and the presidential election. This article will focus on the role of television in the presidential election through three key areas: poll export, presidential debate, and attraction. Television is focused on three main reasons. Firstly, there are many TV voters over any other media. Second, television attracts the majority of the presidential election campaign budget. Third, television provides a good opportunity to contact candidates directly with people.

In September and October of the presidential election year, television presidential debate was held among the two main presidential candidates. Traditionally there was controversy between two vice presidential candidates. The first discussion was held in 1960, but it took another 16 years to discuss on television. In fact, only two arguments are important to shape the outcome of the game. The first was a discussion between President Jimmy Carter in October 1980 and his Republican side challenger Ronald Reagan. At the end of the 90 minute debate, each candidate has three minutes to finish the statement. Reagan skillfully raised a series of questions, and he knew that most voters would answer these questions. In less than a week of the election day, he succeeded in shaping the way voters voted for their ideas on the last day of the campaign campaign.
