The Relationship Between Pressure Groups and the News Media

I can understand today that crowded citizens are thriving on the street, they can understand that they are gathering in front of the official government to promote appeals to the government or to suppress the "late" government . These phenomena are determined by social activities led by pressure organizations and the form of public opinion (Grant, 1999: 4). Relationship between media use and political participation (see function outline in Table 3). By doing so, our research has discovered the unique role of news media and online substitute media in predicting different political involvement. Traditional news media acts as a promoter of political participation, but the use of alternative media on-line leads to non-institutional political participation by increasing political dissatisfaction. Alternative media is a politically dissatisfied amplifier that encourages citizens to participate in protest actions. Both the news media and online alternative media constitute a diverse media environment where individuals are exposed to various information and play different roles for political participation (Kenix, 2011).

Impact of Online Alternative Media on Political Participation Although news media and alternative media show different characteristics, the distinction between them becomes blurred (Kenix, 2011). Traditional news organizations follow objective and structured principles in reporting news, as previous studies have shown. It makes it easy for citizens to obtain specific information about political participation (Hoffman & Thomson, 2009). By contrast, in a close relationship with political activists, alternative media is not so journalistic and more ideological-oriented (Atton & Hamilton, 2008). This feature suggests that alternate media stimulate strong emotions and may be effective in encouraging street protests. However, many existing alternative media studies have focused on content and production (Atton, 2007) and have not fully utilized its effects.
