The Purpose of Punishment in a Modern Society

Punishment existed from the early days of the colonial era, and throughout history it was a way to prevent criminals from committing crimes. Philosophers believe that punishment is a global response to crime and violence and is therefore indispensable in today's modern society. Modern society recognizes that prisoners should be handled humanely according to human rights obligations.
