The Proof Is In: Father Absence Harms Children

According to the US Census Bureau, more than a quarter of 19.7 million children have no father. Therefore, almost all social diseases facing the United States today have father's factors.

Children who are absent or who are in abnormal contact with parents (mainly fathers) have many detrimental effects. According to the survey, most of these children have their fathers disappearing. For young children of divorced parents, they are sorrowful as if their father died, due to their absence from their father. This unconditional separation can result in prolonged pain to the marginalized children. Furthermore, the absence of a father may adversely affect children's behavior. Studies have shown that children who are absent from their father are more likely to have behavioral disturbances. In addition, these children do not work well in classrooms, especially in science and mathematics (Chen, 2008).

Society is changing rapidly, and the number of single parent families with women is increasing, which means that more children are growing without their fathers. The absence of a father is a term whose definition is unclear and in most literature it does not distinguish between absence of a father, disagreement of a parent, or absence of a father for other reasons. This article provides a critical review of existing literature on father's absence, especially in connection with happiness and development of adolescence. The findings of the literature show the importance of the father in the life of the child, and it shows that the absence of the father affects children and adolescents.
