The Problem of Child Labor

You will not forget the simple appeal of a small orphan who is hungry, "Please, Sir" or "Oliver twist". No one can ignore Oliver's painful blows from his heart. In a bigger and stronger world, nobody can remember the feeling of becoming young and helpless. Charles Dickens writes an unforgettable book that touches the hearts of millions of people in order to gather the public's attention to the alleviation of poverty in so many children.

In America 's history, we encountered many problems in child labor. That is why President Franklin D. Roosevelt passed the Fair Labor Standards Act (World Book 455) in 1938. Workers must be at least 16 years of age before working, but the problem of child labor in other developing countries still exists. Currently it is called "condition of milking shop" (Russell Freedman 93). These children are working hard at dangerous work instead of going to school and receiving good education. Many factories and other companies hire children. Because they are less salary than adults and can escape. In addition, children are overworked and low salary, usually working 16 hours a day, 6 days a week, earning only a few cents per hour.

When we talk about education related to child labor, we must understand that child labor and education are not necessarily incomplete (we ignore even the problem of child labor). In fact, there are four situations we can find children. First of all, children can work instead of going to school. Secondly, children may be at work or school. Third, school only and the fourth child are preschool children, neither work nor school. To understand this chapter, various ways of combining child labor and education are important. For obvious reasons, I will introduce some of these variations. Specifically, we are interested in two groups that do not go to school completely and why to do so. Next, I will focus on a group that combines labor activities and education. We also have some time with the children to join the education only group.

Education is the most important and effective solution to the problem of child labor. Families of working children should receive education on child labor and the dangers faced by children. The benefits and opportunities of education are explained to these families and should be encouraged to bring children to school. It is these children that can change family and society. Reducing educational expenses is another option as family motivates child labor to education. We should establish more schools to provide high quality education for children free of charge. These children should also be encouraged to go to these schools to master new skills that can be used in daily life. Governments and citizens of developing countries should support organizations involved in the improvement of child labor
