Planning is a management function that involves identifying goals and alternatives to achieving them. (Straub, 1994) It draws an action plan that promises individuals, departments and organizations over the next few days, months and years. In my organization, CIGNA has made plans at the company, department and individual level. Every year, we achieve certain business goals, introduce new technologies and plan growth. On the departmental side, the goal is usually very similar to the company's goal, but it will be reduced to the implementation scale of the division's company plan. Each employee plans how to contribute to implementation of departmental plan within their duties.

In Boeing, management's planning function is a process for setting goals. This will support the company and its management team in formulating plans, including several activities and tasks that need to be completed to achieve the ultimate goal.
