The Old Woman and Miss Cunegund

Candide is a satirical work written by Voltaire, a great French historian, a philosopher of Enlightenment era. There are two different female characters in literature. Cunegund is the daughter of a baron who experienced intolerable suffering. An unknown old lady is a servant of Cunegund who was born to be the daughter of the pope. Candide is a lover of Cunegund and travel companion. Although both Cunegund and the old lady have good strength, the old lady is still pessimistic although it is realistic, and Cunegund is optimistic but unrealistic.

Voltaire delineated the women clearly when introducing Kunganand and the older elder women. Voltaire was able to draw the horrible details of their role in women's lives and society through Kunganand and the old lady. In Voltaire's novel he offered a lot of images to the reader to explain the fact that being a woman is not fun. Through Cunegund's life and the old lady's story, readers can feel everything they have to pass. After Candid was exiled from the castle, the reader later learned that the Bulgarians attacked it and destroyed it. This is my first time for the first time for the reader to receive information on how Cunegund handled it. Voltaire provides Cunegund writing experience to readers.
