New River Basin New River is sometimes called "not a new river" and is said to be one of the oldest rivers in the world. Starting from Blue Mountain near Boone, North Carolina, the water found in the river began at about 2,000 miles. The itinerary of the trip flows to the center of the Appalachian Mountains to Virginia in the northwest. From there, the river joined the New River when it entered West Virginia. After entering W.
