New Mexico gave its name as early as the current Mexican state from Spain, and even before its name was adopted in 1821. After a long period of independent struggle (1810 - 21), New Spain became a sovereign state of Mexico and signed the "Cordoba Treaty". A short period of monarchy (1821 - 23) known as the first Mexican empire followed by the Mexican empire established under the Federal Constitution in 1824. The legal ethnic category was abolished and the castration system was abolished. Slavery was abolished not in 1821 or 1824 constitution but in 1829. According to Mexico 's 1917 Constitution, Mexico has been established as a federal republic.
