As the scale of various immigrant communities grows, modern American workplaces are culturally diversified. According to the US immigration bureau, 148,426 immigrants in New York reside in 2011. As workplace diversity grows, companies have to deal with various cultural awareness and multilanguage issues. All of these are very pressing problems - New York City, the "crucible" of culture from all over the world. Each workplace in New York has at least one non-US background employee or bilingual employee.
There are many cultural barriers to communication in multicultural workplaces that work in a typical world economy. In addition to understanding people who are difficult to understand different languages, there are other factors that can challenge people trying to live in harmony with different background people. People coming from various places in the world have different reference frames and may express emotions in various ways and show various behaviors. Language is a very complicated problem and communication between people speaking different languages is very difficult. Language is a way to observe the world, and there is a possibility that it may be misunderstood that it is difficult for experienced translators to convey complicated feelings and concepts. When thinking about how often you misunderstand someone who is talking about your language, you can imagine how difficult it is to talk to everyone from people with different cultural backgrounds.
Workplaces in multicultural countries are under great adverse consequences. Diversity leads to misunderstandings, conflicts, and reduced productivity. Firstly, language barriers can be a major problem with increasing conflict and productivity. Because most immigrants speak in different languages and are not used to the language of the host country, it is difficult for these immigrants to communicate in the workplace. Mecklenburg School currently reports that more than 84 languages are used in the international student community. Because of this language barrier, the work system will be slow. Migrant workers work in a new environment, language and culture. They will not be able to function effectively and the productivity will decline. If the productivity of the bottom of the workers pyramid declines, the whole economic system will be chaotic.
