The Modern Day Slavery

Millions of innocent children, adults, men and women are forced to act contrary to their will each year. Trafficking happens everyday and everywhere and at any time, whether it is forced labor or prostitution. It happens at the most unlikely place of the most unlikely people. Even your neighbors, pastors, teachers, even family members and friends can be part of the trafficking system. Trafficking is a problem that affects the lives of millions of people and needs to be tackled through educating people. Trafficking is the second largest illegal industry behind drug trafficking.

Modern slavery is as terrible as historical slavery - people are forced to work in farms, factories or commercial industries. They can neither have rights nor leave ability, nor can they manage their situation. The industry has influenced school-age children - the study by the University of Pennsylvania shows that as many as 300,000 American children face the risk of contemporary slavery in the form of child sex trading discovered. So why is the textbook teaching the myth that slavery has ended in 1865? It is very important for me to incorporate contemporary slavery into the school curriculum. I am a modern slave survivor, a mother and a supporter of trafficked children. That is why I supported the Change.org campaign and called McGraw-Hill, one of the largest producers of American history textbooks, to modify their teachings. In 1865 the slavery was over.

Modern slavery is different from traditional slavery. In traditional slavery, among the 167 countries reviewed in the global slavery index in 2014, countries are illegal and people are considered legitimate property. However, modern slavery is defined as ownership or management of those who deprive the right to abuse the rights that exist in any country in 167 countries. In some countries, the number of enslaved people is particularly high. Only five countries account for 61% of people believed to live with modern slavery, and 70% live in ten countries. India is the country with the largest population of contemporary slavery and has a population of over 14 million people. According to the Global Slavery Index in 2014, the number of slaves in these countries is the largest.

Slavery as we know may be abolished in most parts of the world, but there is another form of slavery lurking in the shadow. Approximately 27 million people worldwide are currently in slavery. At the present time, more people are enslaved than at any time in history. (Liberation Slave, 2013) These are men, women, and children, they are deprived of all human rights. - There are underground scenes in the walls of each country that use people in some way. These uses occur when there is an agreement or disagreement of the abused user. Trafficking and immigration smuggling are two similar but different, affecting almost every country in the world.
