Just before the outbreak of World War II, the music industry was known as the "Celebrity Band" or the more general "Big Band". In this era of music, Glenn Miller will create his Folk Orchestra "Mirror Band". In this band, he will immediately dominate the music industry, reach the peak of the poll in 1940, and will keep his position in 1941 and 1942. Glen Miller increases their popularity through radio programs, and in the two movies Sun Valley looks like the wife of a serenade and orchestra. By 1942 Glenn Miller and his band will be their last names.
During the Second World War, when the music of Glen Miller attracted the world, the music of the big band continued to dominate the television broadcast. Although not a famous improvisational writer, Miller is a great trombone player and a great arranger. By making the sound of the big band smoother and adjusting the song to the popular dance rhythm, he created his own name in the band of jazz bands, for example "Mood for Love" and "Moonlight Serenade ". By the end of the war, jazz is progressing in a new experimental way. Trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie had his own 15 musician band for a while, but he gave up the format of the big band and that it was not appropriate for his future creative direction thought. He was one of many musicians who led the Bebop Wave in the 1950s. Perhaps threatening, some older band leaders, especially Goodman and Tommy Dorsey, criticized this new jazz style.
Mel Powell was elected to the US military during World War II and was a graduate of the Army Air Force Band supervised by Glen Miller. Many famous jazz performers spent their military service in this ensemble, and became a model for many existing military bands. Powell came from the background of the grand piano and became a young pianist and arranger before being elected. After the war, Powell made a famous band leader and a famous career for Hollywood. In the late 1940s, Powell suffered from muscular dystrophy and finished his career as a performer. He left Jazz and learned from Paul Hindmis at Yale University and devoted himself to the creation of classical music. Powell writes in neoclassical style, including innocence and continuity. He is the founding dean of the California Institute of Art, now CalArts.
