"Almost a man" is also known as a short novel by the "Almus" person, Richard Wright. It was published in 1961 as part of the "eight people" of Wright. In the center of the story is a young African-American farm worker, Dave, who is trying to claim his identity in the southern countryside atmosphere. When the main character Dave Sanders returns from work, the story starts with being bothered by his treatment. As he walked through the field he began to find ways to prove to other workers that he was an adult. He believes that the perfect way to prove what he grew was to buy a gun. Instead of going home, he went to a local store to see the guns in the Sears Rowback catalog. When he entered the shop, Dave met the owner 's fat jaw. Dave requested a catalog and Joe asked if he was going to buy something.
Richard Wright's "The man is almost a man" story has a boy named Dave. Dave is a little boy trying to figure out what the man is. Now he thinks that men are gunmen. Dave needs a proper education of the gun and needs to know the knowledge that a person really becomes a man. Because he has a gun he is not a young man so Dave needs to teach what the man is. Dave is a 17 year old boy who wants a gun. He thinks he is almost a man. He believes that taking a gun makes him a man and gives strength to him. Resilience is common sense of masculinity. A person is not a person with a gun, but a person who knows to act like a person and has a gun like a person. He believes that only one gun can make him a man and his behavior will determine his maturity to others. He believes that this will bring horror to the people around him.
