Shirley Jackson was born on December 14, 1916, and she spends most of her time on writing short stories and novels. Some of them include The Sundial, The Haunting of Hill House, and we lived in the castle. The story of Jackson is exciting and influential for most people and controversial for some people. The most controversial story she published at New Yorker in 1948 was "lottery". Although the aim of writing a story depends on the reader, some people say that it expresses "a deep idea about Shirley Jackson's fellow" (Coulthard 228).
