The long-term financial impact of electronic health record implementation.

Confirm the economic impact that introduction of electronic medical record (EHR) has on outpatient clinical practice

Within two years after EHR implementation, we tracked the productivity of clinical practice (ie the number of patient visits) and the repayment of 30 outpatient clinics, and compared each clinical practice with the baseline before EHR.

Even during the two year observation period actual productivity (ie the number of patient visits) decreased, but after EHR implementation the refund increased significantly. In order to explain the increased income, there was no evidence of increase in norms and increase in repayment rate. Instead, they are related to an increase in procedures to be examined (eg blood collection, vaccination, wound care, ultrasound).

Final Results - Implementation of electronic health records is related to increased revenue - providing peace of mind and the foundation for further EHR investment. The decline in productivity is consistent with the onsite report, but efficiency is also reflected. This is a practice where refunds are made to a small number of patients. For clinics where the number of patients decreases after 2 years, the solution may involve advancing its EHR function to include analysis. They may still see fewer patients, but they can concentrate on finding the right patient through EHR analysis.

After EHR, medical fee increased, but in this outpatient clinic environment, the number of consultations for patients has decreased for a long time.
