Lifetime of William Shakespeare The most talented and most famous poet and playwright in the UK was born on 23rd April 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. His father, John is a glove manufacturer and a wool dealer who is involved in financing. His mother, Mary Arden, is the farmer's daughter. William is three out of eight children, all young. His father worked for the city council for many years, then became the mayor in 1568. William went to junior high school and went to grammar school.
