"The Landlady" is a short horror story by Roald Dahl. It first appeared in "New Yorker" and other short stories are reprinted in the 1960s collection Kiss Kiss. [1]

He traveled from London and traveled terribly. Weaver has to change trains at Swindon from late afternoon to late at night at 9 o'clock. Dahl set the mood to the weather and celebrated a cold and windy day for Weaver's trip. On the way, he came to the bed & breakfast and was fascinated by a window display containing a yellow chrysanthemum bottle. In particular, after finding the slogan repeating the word "Bed & Breakfast", he decided to stay there instead of the recommended bell and dragon.

Billy walked over the glass window and looked out, a big dog, a big sofa and a thick armchair were rounded by the fireplace. He decided immediately which hotel to leave and chose Bed & Breakfast. He rang the doorbell and the door opened wide. The woman who owns it is about 45 to 50 years old and welcomes Billy with a warm smile. She soon accepted Billy at home, Billy asked, "How much would you charge?" "5 pennies and 6 pennies are okay," Billy said he was less than half.
